Flipkart, a leading e-commerce platform in India, has reached a noteworthy milestone in its commitment to innovation and sustainability with the commencement of the groundbreaking ceremony for its forthcoming Regional Distribution Center (RDC) located in Manesar. This RDC is set to become one of India’s largest state-of-the-art facilities, solidifying Flipkart’s supply chain presence in Haryana.
Additionally, Flipkart has expanded its supply chain infrastructure in the region by inaugurating a new grocery fulfillment center (FC) in Sonipat, marking a significant step forward in enhancing its grocery delivery services.
The momentous occasion was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Manohar Lal and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri. Dushyant Chautala, both representing the Government of Haryana. Also in attendance were Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of the Flipkart Group, and Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain & Customer Experience at Flipkart.
These investments made by the Flipkart Group underscore not only a commitment to infrastructure development but also a crucial effort to bolster supply chain efficiency and generate substantial employment opportunities within the state.
Spanning a vast expanse of 140 acres, the RDC in Manesar is poised to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, making a significant contribution to local employment. The facility is expected to handle a diverse range of products, from parcel goods to white goods and furniture, dynamically adjusting its assortment to meet customer demands and market trends. The Manesar facility will feature state-of-the-art automation and retrieval systems, including automated conveyors, automatic storage and retrieval, powered spiral conveyors, and automatic sortation systems, all aimed at enhancing operational robustness and efficiency.
In line with Flipkart’s unwavering commitment to sustainability, the Manesar RDC has received Platinum pre-certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The facility incorporates various sustainable features, including rainwater harvesting infrastructure, green spaces, and the capacity to generate up to 20MWp of solar energy.
The launch of Flipkart’s grocery FC in Sonipat marks an expansion of its network of dedicated grocery fulfillment centers in Haryana. Covering an expansive 1.29 lakh sq. ft, this facility boasts an impressive dispatch capacity of 23,000 orders per day, equivalent to approximately 2.9 lakh units daily. With around 40 lakh units of inventory space, it is set to create close to 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities in the region. This expansion aims to streamline operations effectively, ensuring seamless access to essential groceries across more than 150 pin codes, including key regions like Chattarpur, Meerut, Panipat, Rohtak, and Wazirpur.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr. Manohar Lal, expressed his pleasure at Flipkart’s significant investment in the state, highlighting Haryana’s emergence as a manufacturing hub. He emphasized the employment opportunities created by the RDC in Manesar and the grocery supply center in Sonipat, which will not only benefit the workforce but also local sellers, MSMEs, and farmers by connecting them to markets across the country.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer of the Flipkart Group, reiterated the company’s commitment to advancing India’s e-commerce landscape and improving the quality of life for the people in the state. He expressed pride in the IGBC Platinum pre-certification for the Manesar hub, aligning with Flipkart’s vision of a greener and more sustainable planet.
With the groundbreaking ceremony in Manesar and the launch of the Sonipat grocery FC, Flipkart continues to contribute to Haryana’s socio-economic development while playing a pivotal role in the evolution of digital commerce in India.
