Toku was founded in April 2018 by Thomas Laboulle.[3]

In September 2021, Toku raised $5 million in Series A funding.[4] The funds were used to support Toku’s expansion, including the development of its Contact Centre as a Service (CCaaS) platform.[4] In the same month, Toku joined Zoom’s Phone Provider Exchange Program, facilitating the integration of businesses’ PSTN carriers with Zoom’s platform.[5] As an Enhanced Cloud Peering collaborator, Toku is listed for organisations to select as a carrier on the Zoom Phone platform.[6]

In 2022, Toku conducted a survey that revealed, 87 percent of participants received a scam call, 75 percent answered, and 10 percent suffered financial losses, indicating continued vulnerability to phone scams.[7][8]

In June 2022, Toku became the first in Singapore and Southeast Asia to join the global AB Handshake Community.[9][10]
