What You Will Be Doing As Site Reliability Engineer

• System Monitoring: I would set up and maintain monitoring systems to track the performance and availability of various components in the system. This includes monitoring metrics, logs, and other relevant data to identify issues and proactively respond to any anomalies.
• Incident Response: When issues arise, such as service outages or performance degradation, I would be part of the incident response team. This involves investigating the root cause of the problem, coordinating with other teams, and implementing fixes or workarounds to restore services as quickly as possible.
• Capacity Planning: I would analyze system usage patterns and predict future resource needs to ensure that the infrastructure can handle increasing traffic and workload demands. This may involve scaling up or down the resources, optimizing configurations, and making recommendations for capacity adjustments.
• Automation and Tooling: As an SRE, I would develop and maintain automation tools and scripts to streamline operational tasks. This can include deployment automation, configuration management, and repetitive task automation, enabling efficient and reliable system management.

Skills Required for Site Reliability Engineer

• System Administration: Strong knowledge of operating systems (such as Linux/Unix) and experience with system administration tasks like configuring servers, managing networks, and troubleshooting issues.
• Programming and Scripting: Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Go, or Java is beneficial for automating tasks, developing tools, and writing scripts to enhance system monitoring and management.
• Cloud Computing: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including understanding of cloud services, resource provisioning, and monitoring in a cloud environment.
