Key Responsibilities of a Radiology coders
- Review radiology reports, imaging documentation and physician notes to allocate the relevant CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes.
- Code diagnostic radiology X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and Interventional Radiology.
- Use appropriate modifiers depending on documentation and billing requirements.
- Make sure proper coding of professional (Profee) and/or facility components based on scope.
- Assess radiology reports in terms of completeness and accuracy of coding.
- Locate missing or ambiguous records and ask questions to supervisors or providers when necessary.
- Make sure that the billed procedures are medically necessary.
